Extensions, kitchens and bathrooms for homes across West Sussex, and fit-out work for commercial premises — handled from design to completion.
In writing, and broken down — so you can see what is in it, and compare it fairly against another builder.
From the first visit to handover, so there is never a question about who is responsible for what.
The site is left tidy at the end of each day. Our customers mention this more than anything else.
Planning where it is needed, building regulations where they apply, and party wall notices served in time.
Carter Cook Developments has been building and renovating across West Sussex for over a decade. Most of our work is residential — extensions that change how a house is used, kitchens and bathrooms taken back to brick and put back properly — and we also fit out commercial premises.
We work on one job at a time from first visit to handover, so there is no question about who is responsible for what. You get an itemised written quotation before anything starts, an agreed programme rather than a vague start date, and a site that is cleared down at the end of each day. Our customers mention that last one more than anything else.
If you are weighing up whether a project is even feasible, that is worth a conversation before it is worth a quotation. We would rather tell you early that something will not work than find out halfway through.

Services
Three things make up most of our work. Each has its own page, with what the job actually involves.

Reviews from homeowners and businesses we have worked for.
I recently had the pleasure of having Carter Cook lay new tiles in my kitchen, and I couldn't be happier with the results! From start to finish, Chris was a true professional, providing excellent communication, attention to detail, and top-notch workmanship. They were always on time, respectful of my home, and went above and beyond to ensure that the job was done right.
From start to finish, the team at Carter Cook was professional, courteous, and extremely knowledgeable about all aspects of the installation process. They worked closely with me to ensure that every detail was perfect, from the layout and design to the installation of the cabinets, countertops, and appliances.
FAQs
If yours is not here, ask — we would rather answer it before you commit to anything.
We are based on Cook Way in Broadbridge Heath and work across Horsham and West Sussex, including Southwater, Billingshurst, Storrington, Pulborough, Steyning, Crawley and Chichester. We have also carried out commercial work further afield. If you are just outside that, ask.
Often not. Many single storey rear extensions fall under permitted development, which lets you build within set limits without a planning application. Those rights are reduced or removed for flats, listed buildings, conservation areas and streets covered by an Article 4 direction, and they can be used up by a previous extension. Building regulations approval is a separate thing and is always required.
Tell us what stage you are at when you get in touch. Some customers come to us with drawings and approvals already in place; others want the whole thing managed. We will tell you at quotation stage exactly which permissions your project needs and who is arranging each one, so nothing falls between the two of us.
Yes. Plenty of people have already ordered from a showroom or online and want a builder to fit it. If you can, send us the plan and the unit schedule before you place the order — it is much easier to catch a problem on paper than when the delivery is in your hallway.
Yes. Alongside residential projects we have converted commercial premises, including a 6,000 sq ft warehouse fitted out with a new mezzanine floor and full-height partitioned office space, completed while the business stayed open and trading.
Send us the details through the contact form, or call. The more you can tell us up front — rough sizes, a few photos, whether you already have drawings — the more useful our first response will be.
